About

The Scriptures are oh-so rich, deep, and always applicable to real life.  However, sometimes we get distracted and miss their applications for our lives today.  Hopefully, as I share numerous ways these tried and true scriptures continue to strengthen and guide me along my journey – they will enrich you as well.

I grew up learning the Bible from an early age.  However, it was through personal study, questioning and gaining my own relationship with God that I began to see just how important the Scriptures are for my daily life.  I’ve served in the ministry for over forty years and gained so much from the opportunities to learn from the Word and from so many peoples’ lives.  I’m also a wife, mother to four adult children (three who are married) and Nana to eight grandchildren! IMG_1348

The writings on this site will stem from lessons I’ve learned through my own experiences; from others’ lives; lessons learned from observing things around me; from children and also time spent serving the poor in underdeveloped countries. The Scriptures speak to  all of these things.  Many of these lessons are contained in several books I’ve written that are linked in the menus above.

In the movie Chariots of Fire, there is a scene where Eric Liddell states, ” I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.”  I feel this way about writing.  I have a love-hate relationship with words. Sometimes they are like a poem I once read which goes something like this:  Can’t think; brain dumb – inspiration won’t come.  Poor ink, bum pen – best wishes, Amen.

At others times I stay awake through the night with all kinds of words and ideas drifting through my head. I wrote my first book when I was about 7 or 8 years old.  When my mother passed away, this little black cardboard bound illustrated book of poetry made its way back to me.  Among the little ditties was my first stab at poetry entitled, “The Throne.”  It went like this:
As I was sitting upon the throne, in a fantasy world – all alone;  My glee vanished like a vapor, when I saw there was no toilet paper.

Yikes!  Today I hope my writings will be a bit more encouraging and will strengthen you on your journey.  Please feel free to leave me comments or to send me something from your journey that I may use as a “guest blog.”

  1. Jeanie,
I’m always including you in my day and am so grateful for your life and talents…and humor and faith. You know I keep up with scores of authors and cherish writing…it’s been my life’s work for nearly 50 years now in and around classrooms and kids. I may cherish you even more than Emily Dickinson though!
    Love,

  4. Dear Jeanie is so inspiring to read about your love for writing. I can relate, I love to write it’s the way I made it through the cards I was dealt as a young child. I love your books because they are heartfelt and real. I also love the vulnerability that you write with.

    Thanks for your example.

  5. Hi Jeannie,
I have heard about you & Wyndham all of my spiritual life, since 1979, when I was baptized as a college student…in our Campus Ministry with Sheridan & Debbie Wright, in Indiana. I appreciate being a part of your daily inspirational messages, even more because I heard about it because our oldest daughter “liked” your Daily Cup, so I looked into it. Lindsay is a disciple and she and her husband AJ & baby boy Cole are a part of the church in Portland, Maine. My husband David & I are part of the church in the Triangle area of North Carolina, and have been here almost 20 years. So thankful to be faithful, learning, growing & for your help in my daily walk with your messages. My older sister, who gave me my first Bible when Inwas 20, gave me the Jesus Calling app in 2013, when I was by our Mother’s side when she fighting for her life for 8 weeks in the hospital, and lost her battle in the end. This really helped me during that time, and since. Now your daily devotionals will help take me further. Thank you Jeannie, my Sister.
